
About Andrew
Andrew Focks is an international award-winning pianist. The profound depth and bravura of his pianism have been recognized in concerts throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. He has made successful solo debuts in celebrated concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, and been repeatedly broadcasted on television and radio. Within the United States he has appeared in dozens of cities including New York, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Houston, Miami, and San Francisco. After beginning music studies at the age of four, Focks went on to be mentored by top international pianists including Arnaldo Cohen, Jon Kimura Parker, Ya-Fei Chuang, Robert Levin, and others. He holds graduate degrees from Rice University and the Cleveland Institute of Music, the latter of which he joined as faculty upon graduation. A devoted and sought-after mentor, Dr. Focks’ students have performed in such venues as the Capitol Fourth Celebration on PBS television, The Kennedy Center, Hollywood Bowl, the White House, Carnegie Hall, Severance Hall, as featured classical soloist for the BBC Night of the Proms European concert tour, and more. His students have included GRAMMY award winners, as well as national and international competition prizewinners. A former President of the Ohio Music Teachers Association, Dr. Focks is a published author, serves on the jury of important competitions and festivals, gives lectures at leading keyboard conferences and conventions, and teaches masterclasses throughout the world. Active in dual careers, Dr. Focks is a commercial airline pilot and FAA certified flight instructor.
