 Joy Song Thomson · cello
A native of Los Angeles, Joy started cello lessons at age 12. She went on to pursue her studies at the Juilliard School, studying with Joel Krosnick and Harvey Shapiro, earning a Bachelor's and Master's Degree. Under a Fulbright Scholarship, Joy went to Germany, studying at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, as well as receiving the Ferenc Fricsay Stipendium for the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin. Joy has participated in the Piatigorsky Seminar, the Taos Chamber Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Kneisel Hall, and the Salzburg Festival, among others. Before moving back to Los Angeles, she was a tenured member of the Weimar Staatskapelle. Joy has played as a substitute with the Gewandhaus Orchester Leipzig, Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin, San Diego Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and freelances in the Los Angeles area.
