Barbara Corbato

Barbara Corbató · viola

Barbara Corbato is currently the Assistant Principal Viola of the Grand Rapids Symphony, where she has performed since 1990. In addition, she is an active chamber musician, performing with the Perugino String Quartet since 2007, and the GRS’ educational ensemble, the Calder Quartet.

Barbara is also active as a teacher- serving on the faculty at Hope College, where she teaches Viola, while also maintaining a home viola studio. She has also served on the viola faculty at Calvin College and at their annual String Summit.

Before settling in Grand Rapids, Barbara performed in the New World Symphony, Spoleto Festival of South Carolina and Italy, and the orchestras of Columbus, Flint, and Saginaw. She has also participated in music festivals in Santa Barbara, Aspen, Keystone, (Colorado), and most recently, Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck. She has received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Michigan, where her principal teachers included Donald McInnes and Yizhak Schotten.

An avid dog lover, Barbara spends her free time with her husband and their two dogs.
